Nancy E. Anderson believes in the importance of learning a new client?s story.
As senior vice president of Global Wealth Management at U.S. Trust, Bank of America Private Wealth Management, Anderson helps wealthy clients with their financial and estate planning needs.
?I like to engage clients on a personal basis by getting to know their background first ? their values and aspirations,? she said.
Anderson works with a team of five, including an investment portfolio manager, trust officer, private banker and client service professional. In working with clients, Anderson said she tries to offer solutions that go beyond basic investment.
?It?s about educating and helping the next generation to prepare for the challenges of being wealthy,? she said. ?Many clients want to give back to the community, so philanthropy is an important part of the discussion too.?
She also offers financial and estate planning for nontraditional families.
?I have some clients in committed domestic partnerships with unique financial planning needs,? she said. ?I decided that to be a trusted adviser for nontraditional families, I needed to understand their challenges and tax planning needs.?
In March 2011, Anderson earned the Accredited Domestic Partnership Advisor certification from the College of Financial Planning.
The ADPA also helps Anderson with other clients, such as unmarried couples who have wealth to manage but are single in the eyes of the law. ?For example, when one of the spouses in a legally married relationship dies, his Social Security benefits go to the widowed spouse,? Anderson said. ?But if you?re not legally married in the eyes of the law you will not receive those benefits.?
Today, in addition to her U.S. Trust responsibilities, Anderson is an adjunct professor at William Mitchell College of Law and a board member for the Minnesota chapter of the American Diabetes Association, among other commitments.
Born in Lima, Peru, Anderson is proud of her international background and attributes some of her success to her ability to adapt to change and her passion to help others. ?Enjoying what you do every day is the key to success,? she says.
