The Super Bowl Car Commercials, Judged by Wall Street

Over the years, Super Bowl commercial breaks have brought us some of the most memorable car ads in history. With yesterday's spots finally revealed to the watching world, consumers and journalists alike couldn't stop talking about Ram's two-minute "Farmer" advertisement. But how did the trading floor respond? Not well, it seems.

"Prom," by Audi

Stock Trend as of 11:36 a.m.: -2.19%

Handsome kid goes to prom stag, father lets him drive the brand-new Audi S6, and he ends up surprise-kissing the prom queen with only a black eye to show for it? This ad may be pure fantasy (though the ending was chosen by fans), but in reality, Audi's stock price is currently taking a dip.

"Epic PlayDate," by Hyundai

Stock Trend as of 12:20 a.m.: -1.45%

The Flaming Lips appeared in one of Hyundai's four new game dayspots (you can see the rest at their YouTube page) singing a new song written for Hyundai, "Blow Up the Sun." It would appear that the investment crowd doesn't use jelly.

"#SteerTheScript," by Lincoln

Stock Trend as of 12:25 a.m.: -0.14%

Even though Jimmy Fallon was brought on to help write, five tweets set the script for Lincoln's game-day ad. Though pulled from strangers on the internet, it wasn't as non-sequitur as you might think. Predictably, it didn't catch the eye of investors either.

"Space Babies," by Kia

Stock Trend as of 12:25 a.m.: -2.50%

One of two spots Kia ran during yesterday's game?"Hotbots" was the other?"Space Babies" piles on the cuteness factor for the 2014 Kia Sorento.

"Soul," by Mercedes-Benz

Stock Trend as of 12:29 a.m.: -3.60 %

With a Rolling Stones soundtrack and guest appearances by Willem Dafoe, Usher, and Kate Upton, Mercedes-Benz spent a pretty-penny on this spot for its new compact CLA sedan.?

"Farmer" by Ram Trucks

Stock Price: N/A?

Combining narration from the late Paul Harvey's 1978 speech to the Future Farmers of America convention with a series of pictures depicting America's grizzled farmers, Chrysler delivered one of the most moving advertisements in recent memory. However, as a result of the auto bailout, a public stock option for Chrysler hasn't been offered yet.

"Wish Granted, by "Toyota

Stock Price as of 12:29 a.m.: -0.28%

Kelly Cuoco, of The Big Bang Theory fame, stars as a genie in this 2013 Rav4 ad that didn't do much to sway Wall Street one way or the other.

"Get In. Get Happy." by Volkswagen

Stock Price as of 12:00 a.m.: -3.46%

While it doesn't exactly match up to 2011's "The Force", it'd seem likely that Jimmy Cliff singing the Partridge Family would warm the hearts of even the coldest banker. Not the case here.
