New Jersey Lawmakers Legalize Online Gambling

New Jersey is just a Governor?s signature away from becoming the third state in the country to legalize online betting:

TRENTON, N.J. (AP) ? New Jersey legislators gave final approval Tuesday to a bill legalizing gambling over the Internet, sending it to Gov. Chris Christie, who has indicated he will sign it quickly.

The state Assembly and Senate passed an updated version of the bill that Christie vetoed on Feb. 7, making the changes he asked for including setting a 10-year trial period for online betting, and raising the taxes on the Atlantic City casinos? online winnings.

Assuming Christie signs the bill ? he said last week he would do so quickly if the legislature made the changes he wanted ? New Jersey would become the third state in the nation to legalize gambling over the Internet. It also would represent the largest expansion of legalized gambling in New Jersey since the first casino began operating in Atlantic City in 1978.

Nevada and Delaware have passed laws legalizing Internet betting, which also is going on offshore, untaxed and unregulated.

?Finally, some good news for Atlantic City?s future,? said state Sen. Raymond Lesniak, one of the strongest proponents of online gambling. ?Internet gaming will give an immediate boost to the outlook for Atlantic City?s future, preventing the closing of at least one casino, and saving thousands of jobs. Now we can get to work making Atlantic City the Silicon Valley of Internet gaming by being the hub for other states to join.?

The idea is to help the struggling casinos by attracting new gamblers who are not now visiting the casinos. The comps, like free hotel rooms, show tickets, meals or other freebies, would be accrued from online play, but would have to be redeemed in person at a casino, presumably enticing a player to spend more money while there.

(?)

The bill would allow gamblers in other states to place bets in New Jersey as long as regulators determine such activity is not prohibited by federal or any state?s law. It even has provisions for allowing people in other countries to play, although federal law would have to be changed before that could happen, Lesniak said.

There have been efforts in Congress in recent years to life the Federal ban on offshore online gambling, ?most recently a joint effort by retired Congressmen Ron Paul and Barney Frank. If Congress doesn?t act, then perhaps the states will start taking action themselves.

Lenovo ThinkPad Tablet 2

The Lenovo ThinkPad Tablet 2 combines touch, all-day battery life, and ThinkPad styling to the Windows 8 Slate tablet market. It's not a bad first effort, but rivals currently have the upper hand. It can be your all-day companion running from meeting to meeting, and you can get work done with the help of accessories when you finally get back to your desk. Taken alone, it's a very good tablet. Unfortunately, other rivals have better battery life, connections to keyboards, and overall differentiating features.

Design and Features
The Tablet 2 looks professional, with a black PolyCarbonate/ABS plastic cover over a magnesium internal frame. The tablet measures about 7 by 10.5 by 0.34 inches (HWD) and weighs a scant 1.21 pounds alone. Add the optional Bluetooth keyboard ($120) and fitted sleeve ($40), and you're talking a 2.63-pound travel weight. One plus that the Tablet 2 has over its rivals is its built-in slot to carry its included stylus. The Wacom-style stylus has a right-click button, but lacks the eraser tip that rivals like the Dell Latitude 10 and Microsoft Surface Pro have. Weighing less than 1.25 pounds and with its built-in stylus holder, it is a very good handheld PC for running around the office park or for a full day of client meetings.

The Tablet 2 has a few ports and switches on its sides: a micro-USB port for charging, a low-power USB 2.0 port, MicroSD and a SIM slot under a shared door, headset jack, volume, power, rotate lock, a docking port, and a mini-HDMI out port. The SIM slot supplies authentication to an optional WWAN radio, which wasn't in our review unit. The docking connector is mainly for the $100 enterprise-level docking station, since the Bluetooth keyboard and stand lacks a docking port.

The Bluetooth keyboard is very comfortable and has a built-in optical TrackPoint and the usual ThinkPad mouse buttons. But there is no room for a palm rest, and the keyboard has no retention mechanism aside from gravity and friction from the slot carved in its surface. This means that the keyboard stand works fine on a tabletop, but if you use the combo on your lap, the Tablet 2 is likely to slide out if you shift your weight during you work session. Both the keyboard and Tablet 2 fit in a tailor-made fitted sleeve, so the combo can work part-time. The Bluetooth keyboard has its own battery for operation, but it doesn't supply auxiliary power like the keyboard docks for the HP Envy X2 or Acer Iconia W510-1422.

The Tablet 2 charges off of its micro-USB port, which is a plus for the road warrior. Most non-iPhone smartphones use micro-USB to charge, so you can get by only carrying a single charger. The Tablet 2 comes with a 2A USB adapter and a USB to micro USB cable, which you can use with your smartphone or tablet. This also makes it more convenient for the multi-device user, since he can charge the Tablet 2 off of a PC with the USB cable as well. Lenovo also sells a $20 USB vehicle charger so you can charge your tablet on the road.

The Tablet 2's regular USB 2.0 port is problematic. It is full-size, so it will work with all sorts of peripherals like printers, keyboards/mice, and USB memory keys. But the USB port only supplies a few watts of power, so it won't run a large-capacity external hard drive. This shortcoming is a large detriment to getting work done if all you have with you are bus-powered external hard drives. The Dell Latitude 10 and most ultrabook-class tablets have full-power USB ports. The Tablet 2 can connect to 2.4GHz and 5GHz 802.11 a/b/g/n Wi-Fi and Bluetooth 4.0 is supported. GPS is included.

The Tablet 2's screen is a 10.1-inch IPS display with a 1,366-by-768 resolution. This means that you can playback 720p HD content natively, but 1080p content will be scaled down. The system's Wacom-style digitizer and stylus back up the five-point touch screen. When the tip of the stylus comes close to the screen, the capacitive touch sensors turn off, so you aren't making marks with your palm when you're actually drawing on the screen with the stylus. The screen is bright, with a wide angle of view from all sides, and an accelerometer makes sure that screen elements point up at all times.

The Tablet 2 comes with an Intel Atom Z2760 processor, 2GB of memory, and a 64GB of flash storage. When we first turned the Tablet 2 on, it came with 33.4 GB of 50GB free. This is a bit less than the "36.8 GB of 52.2GB free" reported by the Editors' Choice Dell Latitude 10. No doubt much of the used space is the recovery partition plus a selection of pre-installed apps. The Tablet 2 came with Lenovo Companion, Skitch Touch, Evernote Touch, Lenovo Support, a Lenovo Settings app, Accuweather, QuickSnip (a clipping/screenshot utility), Amazon Kindle, Skype, rara.com, Intel AppUp, Lenovo Cloud Storage (SugarSync), and Norton Studio (security). Lenovo also included their QuickLaunch app, which replaces the functions of the Windows 7 Start menu. It's not the most heinous use of space, but since Tablet 2's current options for storage are 64GB only, every bit of storage space is precious. You can of course add storage with the microSD slot. The Tablet 2's front webcam is 2MP and the rear is 8MP with a LED flash. The Tablet 2 has a one-year standard warranty.

Performance
Lenovo ThinkPad Tablet 2 The Intel Atom Z2760 processor in the Tablet 2 ensures Windows 8 32-bit compatibility, so the tablet will work with all your enterprise apps and corporate network protocols. It also means that you can use the browser and plug-ins standardized at your business instead of being limited to Internet Explorer (as you would be on a Windows RT system).

However, while the Atom means that the Tablet 2 has 10-hour battery life (10 hours 11 minutes), it also means that it doesn't perform too well on our multimedia benchmark tests. The Tablet 2 was one of the slowest systems we've ever tested on our Handbrake test (13:27 vs. 1:28 on a Core i5 system like the Microsoft Surface Pro). The Tablet 2 also lagged Atom-powered rivals like the Dell Latitude 10 and Acer W510 on the Handbrake test. On day-to-day tasks, the Tablet 2 put in a passable 1,410 point score on PCMark 7. Basically, if you have a need for corporate information retrieval and media playback all day, the Tablet 2 is fine, but if you need to work on graphics creation on a deadline, you're better off with a more powerful system with an Intel Core processor.

The Lenovo ThinkPad Tablet 2 is a decent Windows 8 Slate tablet. It doesn't win any of the performance tests, but is competitive with its Atom-powered rivals. It's a simple work-based tablet that has a good set of ThinkPad accessories that make it a good fit if you're transitioning ThinkPad users to something a lot more portable. However, for the ultimate in battery life, other systems like the Editors' Choice Dell Latitude 10 and keyboard docking tablets like the Acer Iconia Tab W510 are better choices if battery life is paramount. And let's face it, you're looking at an Atom-based tablet because of its combination of Windows 8 Pro compatibility and phenomenal battery life, right?

Hair stylists fight in court over $9.5 million lotto jackpot

By Jeff Black, Staff Writer, NBC News

Seven hair dressers from Indianapolis have taken a coworker to court claiming she cheated them out of their share of a $9.5 million Hoosier Lotto jackpot.

For her part, the woman claims it was her ticket that won, not an office pool ticket, so she wants to keep all of the winnings.

Marion County Superior Court Judge Heather A. Welch heard testimony on Wednesday and said she would rule on the case by the end of the week, the Indianapolis Star reported.

According to NBC station WTHR-TV, eight stylists who work at a local salon pooled their money to buy lottery tickets for the Feb. 16 drawing.

One of the women, identified by the Indianapolis star as Christina Shaw, was sent out to buy the tickets at a local gas station, but also apparently bought tickets for herself.

Shaw then discovered she'd won, but before making the trek to the Hoosier Lottery headquarters to claim her jackpot, stopped by the hair salon to inform her fellow stylists that her ticket had won, not theirs.

The coworkers called attorney Scott Montross who filed a restraining order to freeze the money. The court action, Montross said, was not against Shaw herself but only to keep the jackpot from being paid out.

?We are concerned that the winning ticket may have been purchased with the group?s money," Montross earlier told the Star. "There?s a dispute about it, but until there is something more definitive, we were trying to keep a low profile. But we needed to slow the train down."

Montross, the Star reported, said the coworkers at Lou?s Creative Styles routinely each contributed $5 each for lottery tickets, and that they agreed that whoever bought the tickets for the group couldn?t buy tickets for themselves in the same place.

Shaw did not comment on the case, though she did indicate to the Star that she had hired an attorney.

A Marion County judge decided to place a hold on the winnings, which after hearing from both sides on Wednesday, she extended until Friday.

According to the Star, the coworkers filing the case were identified as: Lucy Lewis-Johnston, Melanie Ann Bonar; Margie Day-Braugh; Judith Kay Pallatin; Patricia L. Pohlman; Linda Sue Stewart; and Edna M. Thomas.

A voice message left for Montross by NBC News wasn?t immediately returned.

Joe Carnahan No Longer Attached to Death Wish

Joe Carnahan was brought in to write and direct the Death Wish remake, but, now, he's no longer directing the movie because he and the studios couldn't see eye-to-eye over who to cast for the lead role.

According to Deadline, Paramount and MGM wanted Bruce Willis to play the Paul Kersey character, but Carnahan wanted to go with Bryan Cranston.

We can see why the studio would want someone like Bruce Willis since he has more name recognition and is, let's face it, a bigger box office draw. Someone like Cranston, who is probably better for the movie, won't do it for their bottom line.

Carnahan is not someone who's afraid to walk away from a project if he doesn't like the direction it's going. He left Mission: Impossible III after spending a year and a half on it, after all. Since the studios are not giving him freedom to cast who he wants in the movie, he walked.

Now that Carnahan is free from Death Wish, he can move on to a number of projects he's attached to direct like Continue, Undying Love, Stretch, and White Jazz.

According to Frank Grillo, the Death Wish remake won't just be about the Paul Kersey character.

"[Joe Carnahan] is imagining it as a two hander, it's not just Bronson's [character], it's two brothers," Grillo said.

Downsizing an empty nest may not always pay off

When approaching retirement age in an empty nest, is it better to age in place, or is it more economical to move to a smaller nest? Author and retired lawyer Boyd Lemon, who now lives in a rented one bedroom apartment in St. Marys, Ga., estimates his monthly living expenses are about $1,000 lower than when he lived in a three-bedroom condo he owned in California.

It seems a reasonable conclusion: Living on a smaller scale may mean fewer expenses, such as lower mortgage or rent, lower maintenance costs and lower utility bills. However, a move to a smaller home does not necessarily guarantee savings.

Those considering scaling down need to consider the drop in value of their current home, fees and commissions on selling that property, and mortgage costs and refinancing fees, according to SmartAboutMoney.org, which draws from surveys conducted by the National Endowment for Financial Education. "If you can't cut your expenses by at least 25 percent, downsizing may not be a suitable option for many Americans," according to the organization.

There are also human factors that can work against well-intentioned retirees. "Many clients want to downsize, but their egos tend to get in the way," Caroline Delaney, executive vice president of Hillis Financial Services. "They may move into a smaller home, but many have difficulty actually cutting back money-wise. The initial purpose of downsizing is to have a smaller monthly outlay, yet the money they may save in mortgage payments ends up going to remodeling the new home or a new car payment." She recommends that retirees make sure they are actually reaping the benefits of scaling down.

Read More: America's Top Places for Boomers to Retire

"Taxes are also a crucial consideration when downsizing," Delaney said. "This varies by state and some research needs to be done if deciding to rent or buy during retirement."

Another cost to consider is lifestyle costs for those who move away from costly cities ? and their entertainment and friends ? and now will have to travel to get to them.

Meanwhile, retiree Lemon has found that divesting most of his material goods in his move to a smaller place has been a liberating step, though not one that is easy to quantify.

Read More: Hitting 65, Boomers Seek Out 'Retirement Coaches'

"Unless you're a compulsive shopper, there's an incentive to stop buying stuff, and I have. It's a significant savings," he said. "I think, though, more important it's not just a matter of saving money, it's a matter of what you do with your time. If you don't have a lot of stuff, you save a lot of time not having to maintain it or repair it or go shopping for more stuff."

Since his retirement in 2007, he's written six books, most recently "Retirement: A Memoir and Guide."

Services have risen to help seniors downsize their lives, from the nationwide company Caring Transitions to retirement communities such as the AF Village West in Riverside, Calif.

"You need to establish current value of your existing home, calculate your share of any closing costs, what the financing costs are of the new home, and then calculate all the additional costs of moving, what your heating and cooling bills will be in the new home, and what if any repairs or improvements are needed in the new home," said Chris Seman, president of Caring Transitions. "If you don't have enough equity in the home the savings of moving could be quite minor. The decision then becomes, where would you be happier? If you save a very small amount to leave a home you love for one you do not, it isn't worth moving."

Read More: Why Seniors Face Retirement 'Perfect Storm' in 2013

Looking only at the numbers, it doesn't always pay to move, said Joel Danick, co-founder of TAD Relocation. "But if you take more than only the financials into consideration, the emotional piece, the social piece, the physical piece, then downsizing becomes less about the dollar figure and more about measuring the quality of life."

The timing of a downsizing is also a critical consideration, he said. "It is an almost inevitable event that you cannot physically and possibly even financially keep the house in which you raised your children," Danick said, "and the older one gets, the more difficult ? physically and emotionally ? a move gets. The longer you stay in a home, the more overwhelming it becomes to move. If you move when you can enjoy the move, then moving isn't traumatic."

Whether or not one decides to sell, "Cashing in on your home's value and downsizing should not be the only strategic card you are prepared to play in terms of funding your retirement," said Elle Kaplan, CEO and founding partner of Lexion Capital Management. "Ideally, retirement planning begins decades before you plan to retire."

AP source: Tom Brady gets 3-year extension

A person familiar with the contract tells The Associated Press that Tom Brady has received a three-year extension from the New England Patriots worth about $27 million.

The person spoke on condition of anonymity because the extension has not been announced.

The 35-year-old two-time league MVP was signed through 2014, and has said he wants to play five more years. By redoing his contract Monday, Brady also has cleared nearly $15 million from New England's salary cap.

The three-time Super Bowl champion will make far less in those three seasons than the going rate for star quarterbacks. Brady currently has a four-year, $72 million deal with $48 million guaranteed.

Sports Illustrated first reported the extension.

Boba Tea, Milk Teas, Taiwanese, Bobalife, Bubble, Fung Brothers ...

bobalife-boba-tea

I have admittedly not been a huge fan of boba tea in the past. In fact, I kind of don?t like tea in general (I know, I know, it?s amazing, yadda yadda). I do drink it, though, because it?s a much healthier alternative to most flavored drinks. Nevertheless, I have always had an aversion to boba tea until very recently when I went to Tea Chai Te here in Portland. There, I found out you can actually get flavors of the boba beads that are super fruity and a little tart; as a result, I am now completely obsessed. If only I?d listened to my friends who have been raving about boba for ages, much like the comedy duo Fung Brothers,?whose parody video ?Bobalife? is both hilarious as well as a rather accurate depiction of how enamoring boba tea actually is.

The video also features?Kevin Lien,?Priscilla Liang and?Aileen Xu, according to Channel Apa, all singing to the tune of Carly Rae Jepson?s ?Good Time? and eventually to what my limited radio knowledge thinks is ?Faded? by Tyga. The boba team touts the benefits and wonders of this Taiwanese drink, which are actually pretty awesome. You can get boba milk green tea and get all that fantastic stuff we regularly talk about here at Blisstree.

While I realize bubble tea is incredibly popular, I don?t think I?d ever given it quite this much thought before, but now I have a feeling I?ll be thinking about my boobs every time I drink it. Thanks, Fung Brothers! But seriously:?I suggest not drinking while watching this video, as you will probably spray liquid (and tapioca beads, perchance) all over your computer screen. Without further ado, I present you with ?Bobalife?:

Rodeo parade two-steps into town

HOUSTON -

The Houston Rodeo Parade made its way through the streets of Houston on Saturday to the delight of fans.

The "Go Rodeo" cry has been heard on the streets of Houston every February since 1938.

"Our job is to tell Houston and the community around Houston that it's time to rodeo," said David Yates, the parade's chairman.

This year, Texas A&M head coach Kevin Sumlin served as grand marshal, leading the parade through the streets of downtown.

Thirteen marching bands and seven floats rolled through the streets of downtown Houston. But most of the children Local 2 spoke with said they came to see the horses.

"We got 3,000 of them, so they ought to love this parade," said Yates.

Local 2's Courtney Zavala, Keith Garvin and Rany Mcllvoy were also a part of the parade.

The rodeo officially kicks off on Monday.

Is it Crazy To Charge People To Send You Email?

Woman sitting at laptop. Too much email? There might be a solution.

How many e-mails do you have in your inbox? In general, each one represents a task?something to read, a query to answer, a meeting to schedule, a bill to pay, a request to fulfill or deny. Also on your to-do list: Facebook messages, LinkedIn requests, and Twitter direct messages. Whether it?s a social network message or old-school e-mail, all are items to handle, and all placed there by other people.

Is it fair that you have to prioritize these things, collect them in one place, or switch among them? Isn?t there some way that the senders could assume some of that responsibility?

Of course, this is already happening, in part. Facebook decides what to show you. You decide whom to follow on Twitter. LinkedIn charges people to send more than a certain number of introductory e-mails and penalizes people who send too many unwelcome messages. And Google, Yahoo, and Microsoft (among others) filter spam using everything from content analysis to sender behavior to various methods of authentication.

All of these are useful approaches, but none alleviates the recipient?s burden: The system still lets other people add things to my to-do list. But there is another way: The sender figures out what matters and puts money behind that choice.

The short version is that a sender must pay to send mail, while a recipient can set the price. Of course, this notion provokes angst: What happens to poor but worthy people? What about friends? Won?t it be confusingly complex? The answer is twofold. First, the recipient can decide what to charge, and set different prices (or no price at all) for different people or categories, and can even forgive the charges retroactively. Second, there will be services to handle it all for you. The basic service sets a single price, but higher-end services offer (and charge for) as much complexity as anyone could want. Or, if you want to avoid making a lot of decisions, you could select from a set of defaults. (And if you eschew commercializing your time, you could give the money to a charity.)

But the main question is why anyone should pay to send e-mail when they can do so for free. Isn?t it unfair to cut off access?

In the end, people are paying to get someone?s attention. You can go on sending free e-mail, but if you want to get the attention of certain busy people, you pay. Isn?t that more democratic than having to join a club or undergo an interview with their assistant to meet them?

The point of the payment is not so much the money as it is a signal of how someone values his time. For that reason, people will try to hide the mechanics when possible. For example, when messaging someone who charges, you may see a warning only if the recipient is above your payment limit. Another way in will be to join groups?most likely closed groups?that allow free messages among members.

From the sender side, the initial reaction may be, ?Why can?t I reach this person without paying?? Soon, however, more people will say, ?Hey, I want that service, too! I can?t afford a personal assistant to screen my e-mail, but now I can push the burden back to the senders, who have to consider how likely I am to want their message and to respond in the way they hope.?

Over time, a variety of specialist service providers will emerge?single-topic experts and general mail managers. Mail recipients will set their prices for different kinds of mail/requests/senders. The mail managers will also handle incoming messages and Facebook, LinkedIn, and other requests as specified by the recipient, and will collect credit card information from senders (or more likely charge their PayPal accounts or navigate other payment systems as they emerge).

The recipient is unlikely to see the complexities; most of this will be handled in the background. To start, you can simply set your price at, say, $1, along with a list of people who can reach you for free. There will be lots of glitches at the beginning, starting with people you know who have multiple e-mail addresses, old friends not on your current white list of free senders, and so on. But such challenges will diminish over time, and, as less mail gets sent, a higher proportion of it will be wanted and answered.

A couple of other useful changes will follow. Companies will insist on a more careful distinction between corporate and personal e-mail address use. For example, Yahoo may collect $1 on behalf of its employees when they are ?disturbed? at work by mail from friends. But for actual paying customers trying to reach Yahoo, there may well be a white list of potential advertisers, all writing from their corporate e-mail accounts. (I am an investor in direct.ly, a third-party service that offers paid support from former employees and other experts in a non-e-mail version of this idea, and invested in Boxbe, which started out with sender-pays e-mail but eventually pivoted. I think the time is now becoming right.)

There is, of course, a risk that some people simply will try to get rich by charging for incoming mail that they never read. Caveat sender! The whole point is to get senders to consider more carefully to whom they send mail. The burden needs to go somewhere, and shifting it back to its creators makes sense.

Skype for Windows 8 updated; users can now trade files and photos

The Skype app for Windows 8 has received its share of criticism from users who have felt that the app has lacked many of the features that other ports of the VoIP software have had access to for years. This week, the Skype app got a new update via the Windows Store that finally adds a long requested feature.

That feature is the ability for its users to transfer photos and other files to other Skype owners. That means people who are engaging in text, voice or video chats can finally share photos, documents and other files without having to go to another app. It should be a big help for Windows 8 owners who regularly use the Skype app for long distance collaboration and projects, or if they just want to show off the latest cute cat/memes with friends.

The change notes for the Skype app also indicate that there have been some unnamed performance improvements as well as some bug fixes in this new version. Let's hope we continue to get some new features in future updates, particularly the new video messaging feature that recently entered into a beta for other Skype ports. The Windows versions will reportedly get the video messaging feature in late April.

Ford Motor Co. is investing $200 million and hiring 450 workers at an auto plant in Cleveland.

The automaker will boost production of its 2.0-liter EcoBlast engine at its Cleveland Engine Plant.

Production of the engine for North America is currently based in Valencia, Spain. The investment in Cleveland will shift North American production to Ohio, while the Valencia Engine Plant will remain the production location of the engine of Europe-built vehicles.

Valencia will continue to produce and ship parts for these engines to North America.

?Cleveland Engine Plant was the first to produce EcoBoost engines and will continue to be a cornerstone of Ford?s strategy to deliver affordable fuel economy for millions,? said Joe Hinrichs, Ford president of The Americas.

(AP) ? It's Showtime in more ways than one for Floyd Mayweather Jr., who said Thursday he is excited about both a weekend fight he's promoting as well as his lucrative new deal with the CBS-owned network.

Mayweather, who was in Detroit for a news conference ahead of Saturday's junior middleweight title bout between Cornelius "K9" Bundrage and Ishe Smith, likened his Showtime agreement to a matrimonial modification.

"I got a divorce," a smiling Mayweather said of leaving HBO, his longtime television home. "I'm married again."

"I couldn't have asked for a better deal," he said.

The sport's biggest star and moneymaker announced Tuesday that he'll fight Robert Guerrero on May 4 on Showtime, a move that shook up the boxing universe. Mayweather's move is a coup for Showtime, which long has trailed HBO in boxing prominence.

Mayweather (43-0, 26 KOs) said his new revenue-sharing deal could include up to six pay-per-view bouts over 30 months, a much faster pace than to which he's become accustomed.

The 147-pound champion, who hasn't fought since beating Miguel Cotto on May 5, has fought just four times since December 2007.

"The fans want to see a lot more of me," Mayweather told reporters at the MGM Grand Detroit. "I will give you excitement."

Mayweather, who turns 36 on Sunday, was there to support Saturday's card at the nearby Masonic Temple Theatre as well as Smith, his friend and sparring partner from Las Vegas, who is vying for his first-ever professional title.

Mayweather, who grew up in Grand Rapids, Mich., said he began training for the Guerrero fight Wednesday by running in the gym of Ottawa Hills High School in his hometown.

"This is a guy I know I can't overlook," Mayweather said of Guerrero (31-1-1, 18 KOs), the WBC's interim welterweight champion.

He promised an entertaining fight against Guerrero.

"It's Showtime, baby," he said.

Galaxy S4 delayed due to Exynos 5 Octa issues, Qualcomm chips in the picture second report says

The Galaxy S2, S3, and Note 2 all use various versions of the Exynos 4 chip.

The Galaxy S2, S3, and Note 2 all use various versions of the Exynos 4 chip.

It was just yesterday that we read an interesting report from South Korea, claiming that Samsung has Exynos 5 Octa issues, the kind that pressured the company to look at Qualcomm Snapdragon SoCs for its upcoming Galaxy S4 flagship products.

At the time, we wondered if it?s possible for Samsung to completely take Exynos chips out of the equation ? after all the company has other powerful SoCs in the Exynos in addition to the newly launched Exynos 5 Octa ? and rely solely on new Qualcomm processors.

We don?t have a definitive answer to that question yet, but we do have a secondary report today that seems to confirm the former. That is, if the second one is not based on the first one in the first place.

This time around we have Piper Jaffray analyst Gus Richard talking about the Samsung-Qualcomm business relationship in view of the Galaxy S4 launch.

Richard says basically the same things: that the Exynos 5 Octa has issues that determined Samsung to postpone the launch of the Galaxy S4 and look at Qualcomm for chips, a business decision that will benefit the latter:

?We believe Samsung?s Galaxy S4 has slipped and the Galaxy S3 has been in production a quarter longer than expected,? writes Richard. ?We believe the S4 is being delayed primarily due to power issues with the company?s eight-core Exynos Octa [?] we believe the company is likely to shift more to external sources. We believe QCOM will pick up more of Samsung?s S4 business.?

Analysts don?t always get it right and we?ll have to wait for the product to become official before we can draw up any conclusion. Samsung will surely not admit that there?s anything wrong with the Exynos 5 Octa, and will surely offer a different explanation in case Qualcomm will indeed be providing the Galaxy S4 chips.

Finally, we will remind you that not so long ago, another report revealed that a Samsung official confirmed anonymously that the Galaxy Note 3 will have the Exynos 5 Octa under the hood, and at the time we wondered why the Galaxy S4 wasn?t mentioned either. After all wouldn?t execs with inside information ready to spill some beans on the company?s future products also mention one of the hottest upcoming devices in case said device were to come with an Exynos 5 Octa CPU?

AP Source: NCAA says 3 former coaches misled probe

The NCAA believes former Miami assistant coaches Clint Hurtt, Aubrey Hill and Jorge Fernandez provided false or misleading information during the probe into the Hurricanes' athletic department.

The NCAA said all three violated "principles of ethical conduct" as part of the notice of allegations served against the Hurricanes, according to a person who spoke to The Associated Press Wednesday on condition of anonymity because the allegations have not been released publicly.

Hurtt and Hill were members of Miami's football staff. Fernandez worked on the men's basketball staff.

Several other coaches are named or referenced in the allegations, including Missouri basketball coach Frank Haith. But only Hurtt, Hill and Fernandez are facing the ethical-conduct charge, commonly known as NCAA Rule 10.1.

Hurtt is currently on the staff at Louisville. Hill is not working as a coach at this time, and Fernandez spent last season as an assistant at Marshall, resigning last May.

The notice of allegations was delivered to Miami on Tuesday, and the university is facing the charge that it had a "lack of institutional control" - one of the worst things the NCAA can levy against a member school. The charge revolves around how the school allegedly failed to monitor conduct of Nevin Shapiro, a rogue booster and convicted felon who provided cash, gifts and other items to players on the football and men's basketball teams.

University President Donna Shalala said Tuesday night that the Hurricanes have suffered enough already through self-imposed sanctions. Through a university spokesman, she declined further comment Wednesday.

The NCAA said Hurtt and Hill committed the same violations, at least related to the ethical-conduct matter.

The NCAA alleged both provided meals, transportation and lodging to either recruits, current players, or both in either 2008 or 2009. Both were interviewed by the NCAA during the course of its probe and allegedly denied providing those extra benefits, statements the NCAA said were contradicted in each case by what players told them separately.

Hurtt also took a $2,500 personal loan from Shapiro, which was repaid. The NCAA also believes he sent about 40 impermissible text messages to recruits, which typically is a secondary, or minor, violation.

Fernandez, the NCAA alleged, "knowingly provided extra benefits" in the form of an air ticket. The NCAA said Fernandez denied using air miles for the tickets for a men's basketball player and a high school coach, despite evidence to the contrary.

In February 2012, Miami center Reggie Johnson was ruled ineligible by the school after an investigation revealed that members of his family accepted "impermissible travel benefits" from a member of the school's former coaching staff, without specifying Fernandez or anyone else by name. The university said Johnson was not aware of the benefits, personally accepted nothing and that his family had been told they were allowed.

Johnson was reinstated quickly last season, and remains a key part of this season's team - now ranked No. 2 in the nation and leading the Atlantic Coast Conference. The ongoing cloud of the scandal is not hurting the Hurricanes, basketball coach Jim Larranaga said Tuesday night.

"If it was overshadowing what we were doing, this room would not be packed," Larranaga said after his team beat Virginia. "We're getting so much exposure. We can only focus on the things we have control over. We have nothing to do with the investigation."

Several other former Miami coaches are named in the allegations as well, including one-time men's basketball assistant Jake Morton, who the NCAA said, among other things, accepted "supplemental income" of at least $6,000 from Shapiro. Morton is now on the staff at Western Kentucky.

Missouri coach Frank Haith is alleged of failing "to promote an atmosphere for compliance," a charge specific to how he handled things when Shapiro allegedly wanted money in exchange for not going public with accusations that he paid to help the Hurricanes recruit a player.

Some of the allegations are more than 10 years old, including a claim that Shapiro bought a suit for former Miami star running back Willis McGahee to wear to the Heisman Trophy ceremony in 2002.

Other allegations include that he paid for dinners at Benihana, televisions, sneakers, Miami Heat tickets, bowling parties, one player's engagement ring, a used washer-dryer set for current New England Patriots lineman Vince Wilfork, and that he directed his girlfriend to give two former Hurricanes no-show jobs for a couple of months.

AP Sports Writer Steven Wine in Coral Gables, Fla. contributed to this report.

Video: Obama goes to bat over spending and cutting

>>> debate over spending and cutting is going just the way president obama planned apparently. he's out there every day making the case he's looking out for the middle class while the republicans are just as stubbornly looking out for the wealthy. in his automatic across the board cuts march 1st the president is taking advantage of the power of his office. he's doing interviews with eight local tv anchors. most of these markets include a significant defense presence, they're near bases, an industry that could be hit hard if a sequester goes into effect of here's a click from nbc oklahoma city affiliate kfor. let's listen.

>> we've got some automatic spending cuts coming up in nine days that will lay off hundreds of thousands of folks or furlough hundreds of thousands of folks all across the country. they're not necessary. they'll hurt our economy. they'll raise the unemployment rate. and the reason is because congress has not been able to compromise on a deficit reduction package that's more sensible.

>> yesterday the president insisted sudden across-the-board spending cuts would be unnecessary and damaging and he made sure that first responders were there to punctuate the message. let's watch and listen.

>> border patrol agents will see their hours reduced. fbi agents will be furloughed. federal prosecutors will have to close cases and let criminals go. air traffic controllers and airport security will see cutbacks, which means more delays at airports across the country. thousands of teachers and educators will be laid off.

>> and keeping up the drum beat , house minority leader nancy pelosi will hold hearings on how middle class families could be hurt by the spending cuts that could kick in march 1st . joining me is u.s. congressman adam shiff of california. i was so impressed by the way you explained all of this this morning on msnbc. i'd like you to do it again. your take on what this fight is about coming up march 1st , sir.

>> well, the fight is largely a fight within the gop. you talked earlier about the schizophrenia within some of the gop members. that is most manifest in the house. they really have two minds. you've got the tea party contingent that wants to tear down government that ran on a platform of tearing down and never made the transition of being for anything. right now they're driving the train. they want the sequester to go into effect. they want it to go into effect because they want to show that they're serious about this and they feel that's their mandate. at the same time, it's going to be enormously destructive to the economy. we are poised to make a recovery, and if just the -- if the congress could get out of the way and stop manufacturing these crises month after month, i think we would have a full recovery. but what the president has proposed, which is a reasonable compromise, that's part spending cuts, part revenues is being rejected by the house of representatives ' leadership and we are where we are.

>> two major points i heard there at the beginning by the congressman. john, i want you to respond. first of all, the who. it is the hard right. you talk to people at the white house and they say this president, whatever you think of the politics, doesn't know who to talk to on the hill. there is no boehner, he's just a front man. eric kantor has his finger in the air trying to figure out which way the wind is blowing. how do you know who they are? are they hamas?

>> they are not hamas. there's nobody that speaks with one voice for the house republicans. when there is a deal cut it's always mitch mcconnell and joe biden .

>> who is obama talking to, the president? he has to send joe up to find somebody of like mind to talk to him?

>> yeah, because he doesn't have relationships on the hill. whether that's his fault or their fault --

>> we agree on that, there's no connection. congressman, back to you. the what. what i found profound in what you said this morning is it's not -- sure, we're going to argue whether one party won 60/40 or lost blamed. forget the blame game for a second. what's going on with the economy? i think the american people looking at the polling we got our hands are have become very demoralized ever since the election. they have been seeing shutdown talk, debt ceiling talk, this stupid named sequestration and all they hear is trouble in the nation's capital. the inability of our own government which has been elected to do its job. i think it's hurting the economy. your thoughts.

>> absolutely hurting the economy. what people want in business and family life is some stability. they want the ability to plan. they want to know what are my taxes going to be. they want to know, you know, am i going to have a job. am i going to be laid off. and all they want is some solidity to plan with. when we go through these crises, it's incredibly destructive.

>> do you think the right wing people know when they're sitting in their chairs voting no, no, no, bringing one manufactured crisis to bear after another that they're just happy when they pick up the paper and say public confidence going down. that's good for our party.

>> we know that grover norquist starving the beast of resources. now they're starving the beast of credibility. they're starving the beast of the federal government with any public confidence that it can actually solve problems. this is part of the destruction of our federal government . they would be delighted if people lost confidence in the government and if they could further tear it down. a lot of people run for congress against the government. that's a tried tradition in american history . but usually once they have office and they have responsibility to govern, they find they have to be for something as well. but this crowd has never made the transition to being for something.

>> but they take a salary, don't they?

>> they take a salary --

>> where they work in the united states government , they're working for the government to function, at least, even if they vote against it. they do want a functioning government but now i get the feeling they don't.

>> i think there was a little truth serum from the congressman. you campaign against the government as if it was the worst thing in the world and then you get there and you're supposed to change the stripes you showed to the voters.

>> you're supposed to change policy to the advantage --

>> but all these guys are focused on their very narrow constituencies. even within their districts, it's not --

>> what do you think about this result. in arizona we saw a very right wing crowd on immigration. when they pick up the paper and see the government is shutting down again and there's questions about whether we can move an aircraft carrier into the persian gulf if we need one, all kind of questions like that about security, do you think they're happy?

>> i think for a lot of people it's great, the government is shutting down. when they go to get services from the va or people are crossing the border or --

>> or they get in an airplane.

>> they care about --

>> how about getting in an airplane.

>> it doesn't take very long for the public to really get this.

>> congressman, i'm so impressed. thank you so much. you're a very eloquent spokesman for a very complicating situation, which i think gets worse every day. thank you so much for coming up.

>> thank you.

>>> up next, how a right wing smear, and it was kind of a joke to begin with, against chuck hagel went viral. this is this thing that if you say something even sarcastically some whack job will put it on the radio or on a website. next thing you know people are reacting to that reaction and it's become a frankenstein's monster. we'll show you how it works in a couple minutes. this is stirring and it's scary. it could involve you some day. this
